The Edwin Vazquez Band is one of a kind. Members of the band consist of Manny Lanzot, Alacosta, Ray Feliciano, Gilberto Velazquez, Louie Marrero, Edwin Vazquez and other accomplished musicians.
Meet some of the musicians:
Manny Lanzot [the bassist] has done studio and live sessions with artists such as Tito Puente, Nestor Torres, Brenda K. Star, Tom Brown, Noel Pointer, Patty Labelle, Louis Vega Master at work. The Barrio Boyz Silk & Intro.Regis and Kelly show and ABC studios.
Alacosta [alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet, & flute] has worked with Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez jr. Machito, the Big three, Groupo Caribe, Frankie Morales Papo Pepin, Joe Quijano, Ray Santos Orch. Harbor Big Band, Coltijo, Kako, Joe Batan, Mana, Xaviar Cugat, Johnny Ray, Tremendos De Columbia, Los Chevere de Columbia, Los Supremo del Equador, Maritsa y sus Galanes, Millie Quesada, Alex Bueno, Tony Pérez, Negro Estrella, Blue Mambo, Mambo Negro Steve Poochi,Latin-Jazz Crusaders, Latin-Jazz Alliance, George Gee, Harlem Renaissance, Harlem Stompers, George Smith, Abe Silverman, Lynn Oliver, Jackie Byard, Cab Calloway, etc.
Ray Feliciano [the trumpeter] has worked, and or recorded with Latin music luminaries such as: Hector Lavoe, Johnny Pacheco, Celia Cruz, Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Conjunto Clasico, Jose Bello, Lebron Brothers, Oscar De Leon, Jose Mangual Jr., Millie Quesada, Rafael De Jesus, Conjunto Imagen, Louie Ramirez, Kako, Ismael Rivera, La Protesta, Ivan Burgos, Santiago Ceron, Johnny Kenton, Miguel Quintana, George Guzman, Johnny Zamot, Ralph Robles, La Nueva Explosion, Cheo Feliciano, Boncana Maiga, Orquesta Capri, Conjunto Suave, Yeyar, Johnny Ortiz and Taibori. Ray's trumpet can be heard during the closing credits of the movie "EL Cantante" starring Mark Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. In addition, Ray has worked extensively with Top - 40 cover bands such as The Soul Crew, Flavor, and Ecstasy. Ray has spent the last 12 years working the Club Date/Wedding Band circuit in the tri-state area with Hank Joel Music, The Topaz Orchestra, and the Jack Goodman Orchestra.
Edwin Vazquez [the drummer] has perfoemed with late, legendary Latin musician, Tito Puente; Luis Fonsi, Alejandro Sanz, Pedro Capo, Christian, Orchestra Broadway, Dead Mile Dance, Big Popa, the Wilfredo Velez Latin Jazz Quartet; Oscar Cartaya, one time bassist for the famed Jazz Group, Spyro Gyra; Eddie Q's band, Progression; Eugene Perez, bass player from the Willie Colon Band; Mike Vinas, from "Seis De Solar", the Ruben Blades Band and his own, the Edwin Vazquez Band. Edwin his also been ableo to back-up singers from different genres, including gospel music artists such as Grammy Award winning, Bebe & Cece Winans. Upcoming artist, Hiram Garcia and The Revelation Band opening up for the legendary gospel singer Shirley Caesar. Other gospel artists include: Josue DeJesus, Monin Sanabria and Bobby Roman.
Edwin backed-up comtemporart Latin pop artists in "El Ultimo Concierto Del Siglo", Last Concert of the Century, held in Madison Square Garden. Artists indluded: Noelia, Jordi, M.D.O., Los Trio-O, Marco Antonio Solis, Yolandita Monge, Christian, Shakira, Ednita Nazario, Ricardo Montagne, and Carlos Pone. Also, Olga Tanon, in the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC.
Edwin's versatillity has enabled him to work with young as well as veteran musicnas with in New York City, including Off-Broadway, video productions, clubs & coffeeouses. Edwin is also a successful studio-recording drummer, working on projects for various performers and recording companies.
Gilberto Velazquez [lead vocalist] was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Gilberto has been singing for over 15 years performing with over 50 artists as a vocalist inc. Eddie Palmieri, Oscar de Leon, Andy Montanez, Jose Alberto “El Canario”, Ismael Miranda, Cano Estremera, Tito Rojas, Frankie Negron, Black Sugar Sextet, Jose Mangual Jr., and others. Gilberto is better known, however, as being a frontline performer where he is a top “pregonero” of the moment, first starring with Luisito Rey y Su Orq. and then with Son Sublime (whose 2007 "Bailando Con Son Sublime", Cuban Charanga album Gilberto is featured on). He is currently one of the two vocalists for the Salsa Dura band “La Excelencia” whose 2nd album “Mi Tumbao Social” was just released in January and is receiving worldwide acclaim causing them to tour the continent this Summer. In April 2008, Gilberto was a vocalist for Paul Simon’s “Songs from the Capeman” concert series at BAM where he did lead and ensemble vocals and is part of Paul Simon’s doo-wop group that just participated with Mr. Simon in the re-opening of the Beacon Theater (Feb. 13th –14th, 2009). Last Fall, Gilberto was part of Pregones Puerto Rican Theater’s musical “Game Over”. When he is not touring, on most Friday’s and Saturday’s Gilberto sings with La Maquina Amarilla at Sofrito on 57th St. and 1st Ave. in NYC and on most Tuesday’s at the Bronx’s South of France Restaurant.
Louie Marrero [vocalist] is a member of The Boyz del Barrio (aka the Barrio Boyz) The group members are Ángel Ramirez, Jr., David Davilla, Hans Giraldo, and Louie Marrero. All of the Boys are New York natives and are bilingual in English and Spanish. As youths, they were especially influenced by the Soul music of the '70s, R&B of the '80s, Hip-Hop of the '90s and Reggaeton of the new Millennium. Formed in 1991, they were created as a mainstream Latino group. Though they started out making Spanish & English recordings, the band’s ultimate goal have been to crossover into the mainstream market. The members were also able to grace the stage & recording studio with the ever-popular Tex-Mex superstar Selena to record a duet entitled “Donde Quiera Que Estes.” which remained at #1 on the Billboard Latin charts for more than six strait weeks. The Boyz del Barrio became the first Latin group to perform on the popular music television show The Soul Train. They went on to record numerous albums & perform on stage with such artist like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, & Michael Bolton to name a few. Now after 10 years, they return to the music scene to concur the world once again with their smooth, romantic & sultry voices. |
